Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990)

Well It's October 1st (at least where I live it is.) So you know what that means, yep. Its time for me to write reviews for "spooky" games, so I'm going to fit in as many as I possibly can during this month, and seeing as I don't have anything else better to do than talk about 20 year old video games I'm pretty sure I will get a lot done in this month. I've decided to start the month off with a pretty good game based off a damn awesome movie Gremlins 2: The New Batch.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch was one of my favorite movies as a kid and I still like it a lot these days.  Had I known there was a Gremlins nintendo game I would probably have shit myself, however like many other great games I didn't find out about this game till many years later, when I got the internet and found emulation, and this game is a hoot. The game follows the movie pretty well, of course I wouldn't really care if they made a game where Gizmo teamed up with RoboCop and Jesus to fight Satan as long as the damn thing was fun. (Actually I really want a game where Gizmo, RoboCop and the Son of God team up. Someone make it happen. Now)

Sunsoft (this games creator) was very very VERY good at getting the most out of the graphical chip on the NES. One of their games Batman Return of the Joker looks like a bonifide SNES game in places. No joke. The graphics are pretty damn good and the characters look like their movie counterparts. The music is pretty catchy but I must be honest, Sunsoft has done much better work. I mean Batman and Blaster Master had some of the BEST music on the NES, so compared to this Gremlins 2 is kind of a disapointment. Don't get me wrong the music is pretty good, but its nothing compared to what Sunsoft has done before.

The game is a pretty challenging one too, however It can be beaten if you put enough effort into it. Still I must mention the fact that there are some very devious and dickish jumps in this game. Jumps where you HAVE to hit an enemy or spikes (and Gizmo doesn't die when he hits spikes unlike every other NES hero. Gizmo is a badass) so you can get to the next platform. Despite that the game is a pretty fair challenge and if you are good at NES games I'm sure you can beat it in a few hours.

Gremlins 2 The New Batch even has a boss fight with my favorite Gremlin! The electric one! and he's probably the hardest boss too. So that's awesome. Great to see an awesome Gremlin get his due. Also my other favorite the Crazy ass motherfucker one also appears in the game. And theres even a cameo by the sexy as hell female Gremlin....yeah I think I need to get out more. So the fact they got into the game is pretty awesome. (also the old asian dude has a shop set up in the stages where you can buy powerups and lives. I don't really care if that makes no sense because the dude died in the movie. That old asian guy kicked ASS)

Another good thing about this game is the fact It's pretty cheap, so theres no reason why you shouldn't pick it up. So what the hell are you waiting for?
